Both experiences were so physically traumatizing that I had nightmares about them for years after. Needless to say I never, ever, even began to entertain the thought of repeating the offenses that earned that kind of lashing to begin with. And I must say it has to be the most effective tool of reform ever conceived in the history of the human race.

Whether its right or wrong who is to say, but as far as effectiveness, whipping a fellow human being on the soles of her feet has to be one of the most effective torments/physical punishments of all time time.

If punishments like that were worldwide, the population would not even need to worry about criminal activity.
