Maybe I just like being wet. She wondered if her indifference to rain was related to her desire to have accidents. Both involved being damp, and most normal people didn’t like either of them.

She mentally steeled herself as they pulled into the Petrands’ driveway. If previous conversations with Emily were any indication, Hailey would have to be careful not to lose IQ points when Emily was talking.

After a few days, Hailey was bored out of her mind. Emily was simply a popular girl wannabe: she attempted to follow all the fads, but she lacked the subtle social intelligence that the group expected. That didn’t stop Emily from thinking she was popular, though. Hailey was getting sick of listening to her choice of music and watching insipid TV shows that only people with no standards could possibly find interesting. And Emily wouldn’t shut up about boys.
