The only thing Hailey found interesting about Emily was how easily she was embarrassed about bodily functions. Emily would never admit she was going to the bathroom; she always had to “freshen up” or “go do something.” She would also run the fan and the sink whenever she was in the bathroom, presumably to keep anybody from hearing what she was doing in there. When Emily emerged from the bathroom after a bowel movement, the bathroom would always smell strongly of air freshener spray.

Hailey found this humorous. There were only a few things you could do in a bathroom, and usually you could judge what they were by the length of time spent with the door shut. The use of air freshener itself would tell Hailey exactly what Emily had just been doing. Emily was definitely going about this all wrong.
